Alcohol and drug abuse are factors in the placement of more than three-quarters of children entering foster care.
At some time or another, over two-thirds of the population in the United States has been reported to drink alcohol socially, according to research conducted by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
Although medical amnesty policies are well meaning and offer tremendous opportunities to potentially reduce the number of alcohol related deaths on college campuses, they are based on assumptions that the individuals involved are educated in identifying and understanding the risks that are associated with the symptoms of alcohol poisoning.
Youth exposure to alcohol marketing should also be reduced by lowering the voluntary industry standard governing the placement of alcohol advertising from the current 30% threshold to 15%, based on the proportion of the audience that is age 12-20 years.
